My name is Talisker Scott Hunter. I am a freelance journalist and illustrator.
As a features writer, I’ve covered a range of stories for publications across two continents. I went undercover to report on bomb disposal in Laos for The Diplomat, combed New Zealand’s national archives for signs of shipwrecked gold for The Spinoff, and followed elephant hunters for The Japan Times. My interviews and profiles include internationally recognised musical artists Natasha Bedingfield, P-Money, and Phibes, as well as passionate NGO leaders, sportspeople, activists, and educators. In 2021, I was awarded Best Culture and Lifestyle Writer by the Aotearoa Student Press Association for work in my university magazine. I am also a regular contributor to the Aotearoa Tukutuku Kōrero, where I cover education stories related to climate change, youth work, and indigenous Māori kaupapa.
For the last year, I have been travelling, covering stories when I can but otherwise filling sketchbooks and hiking. See samples of my artwork on Instagram.
